
Smokies Add Reed To Roster Wednesday

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies, Double-A minor league affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, have added C Mark Reed to the active roster in advance of the team's Wednesday evening game with the Montgomery Biscuits. In a related roster move, C Robinson Chirinos was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, May 25.
Reed joins the Smokies after starting the 2010 season with the High-A Daytona Cubs. He spent the 2009 campaign playing 54 games for the Daytona Cubs, and 28 games in Tennessee. In 2010, the Upland, CA native was hitting .188 (19-for-64) with one triple and one double. The Cubs selected Reed in the third round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft
Chirinos head to the disabled list with a .347 batting average (42-for-121), seven home runs, 13 doubles and 25 RBI for the 2010 season. He was signed by the Chicago Cubs as a non-drafted free agent in 2000.
