Worcester Bravehearts News Release

The Worcester Bravehearts (6 - 2) have found themselves in an unfamiliar situation - a losing streak.

The undefeated Brockton Rox (7 - 0) handed the Bravehearts their second consecutive loss in a 6 - 3 contest June 12 at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field. However, both teams remain in first place in their respective divisions.

Rox pitcher Andrew David from Tufts University threw six strong innings allowing only three hits and striking out five. His only blemish on the day was a solo home run by Worcester left fielder Darian Ramage in the bottom of the sixth inning. Ramage finished the day 2 - 3 at the plate and was the only Braveheart to have multiple hits.

The Rox hit Bravehearts starter Sam Ross early and often with three runs in the second inning. Ross allowed five hits and walked four batters in 2.2 innings pitched and was charged with his first loss of the season. The Rox collected 11 hits combined with three singles coming from first baseman Nick Johnson who finished 3 - 4 in the game.

After Ramage's home run, first baseman Mark DeYoung hit an RBI single in the seventh inning to score designated hitter Nick Nunziato and close the gap to 3 - 2. However, the Rox answered in the eighth inning with a two-run home run from catcher Joe Freiday on a line drive shot over the left-center field fence.

The Bravehearts added a run in the eight inning, but Brockton closer and Holy Cross sophomore Brendan King shut the door in 1.2 innings pitched to record the save.

Worcester will host the Torrington Titans in a rematch of the first game of the year at 7:05 p.m. June 13 at Fitton Field.
