PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Suns (5-3) defeated the Martha's Vineyard Sharks (3-4) 2-1 Thursday evening on a ninth inning two out RBI single by Dan Donahue. The victory marks four wins straight for the Suns.

Pittsfield didn't waste any time and jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Michael Valentin Jr. singled and reached second on the throw. After a walk to Edgar Montes and a fielder's choice by Jeff McGary, Valentin would score on a RBI single from Derek Gardella (5).

The Sharks would even the score 1-1 in the sixth inning. Ryan Kelly was hit by a pitch and would come around to score after two sacrifice hits from Brendan Cox and Tim Bickford and a Suns error.

Dan Donahue would bring home the winning run for the Suns in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs. Derek Gardella advanced to first on a dropped third strike and would end up at second on a Sharks throwing error. After intentionally walking Brandon Geary, Donahue would step to the plate with two on and two outs and smack a single just pass the reach of the Shark's shortstop, plating Gardella, to send the Suns home with a 2-1 victory.

Strong pitching performances from both starters kept the game close. Jamin McCann went six strong innings for the Suns, only allowing one run on three hits while striking out five. Nate Spielvogel (1-1), who threw two thirds of an inning after relieving Austin Salintis, recorded the Suns win. The Shark's Matt Binder (0-1) would be charged with the loss.

The Suns return to Wahconah Park on Sunday, June 19th to take on the Nashua Silver Knights. It's Father's Day and fans are invited to play catch on the field prior to a 4 PM first pitch.
