Arkansas Travelers News Release

FRISCO, TEXAS - Travs pitchers continued their domination over Frisco batters Monday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark, as four pitchers combined for a five-hitter in a 1-0 victory. Arkansas right hander Ryan Brasier (1-0) gave up just two hits over six innings then allowed the bullpen to take over. Ismael Carmona and Jordan Walden backed up Brasier with one shutout inning each, and Amalio Diaz (1) earned his first double-A save pitching the ninth. Centerfielder Clay Fuller's RBI double in the seventh inning provided all the offense the Travs needed, as they won their second game in a row.

The four Travs pitchers struck out nine batters bringing their grand total to 23 over 18 innings during the two games at Frisco, while holding the Riders to one run on 12 base hits.

Brasier didn't have to deal with much trouble as only three Frisco batters reached in his six innings. Nine of the first ten went down before Guilder Rodriguez collected the first hit of the game with a single in the fourth. He tried to steal second but Travs catcher Alberto Rosario pegged Rodriguez at second base. Brasier pitched around a Kevin Richardson double to strand him in the fifth inning, and finished his night with five consecutive outs.

Frisco left hander Martin Perez was also tough to hit, although he walked four in 4.2 innings. The Travs managed just two hits off Perez, both coming in the fifth inning. Efren Navarro got a leadoff base hit to left field, but Wes Bankston threw him out trying for a double. Alberto Rosario followed with a single and Andrew Romine took a two out walk ending the night for Perez. Brennan Garr relieved and got Ryan Mount on a groundout to end the inning.

Right hander Evan Reed came out for the top of the seventh and retired two batters quickly. But Rosario punched a single off Reed's glove and stole second base giving Fuller a chance for the go-ahead base hit. Fuller went the opposite way on a 2-2 pitch for the game-winning hit, an RBI double into the left-field corner.

Still Frisco threatened Carmona in the seventh inning getting a pair of one-out singles from Bankston and John Whittleman. Carmona caught Richardson looking before hitting Jonathon Greene to load the bases. Then Carmona blew away Matt Lawson leaving three runners.

Walden pitched around a single in the eighth with two strikeouts, and Diaz survived a ninth-inning error by Mount by punching out the last two batters to preserve the win.

Time of game was 2:46 and the paid attendance was 4,867.

Now the Travs go for the series sweep of Frisco on Tuesday morning with opening day starter Tim Kiely (0-1, 11.57 ERA) on the mound against Frisco righty Blake Beavan (1-0, 1.50 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Listen to the Travs broadcast on Sports Animal 920 AM with the Coca-Cola Pre Game Show beginning at 10:40 a.m.
