DES MOINES - Iowa Barnstormers Head Coach and Director of Football Operations John Gregory today announced the team reached agreement with starting quarterback Joe Brannen for the 2009 season. The Colo, IA native and Coe College standout returns for a second season with the af2's Iowa Barnstormers.

Brannen, who came into the 'Stormers 2008 training camp as the team's projected back-up, earned the starting job by the third game of the 2008 season. Playing in his first season of arena football, Brannen completed 281 of 511 passes for 3,190 yards, 56 touchdowns, 21 interceptions, and a passer rating of 84.2. Brannen also rushed for a team-high 14 touchdowns.

"I'm happy to be back with the Barnstormers and know we will continue to improve," said Brannen. "Iowa is my home and I'm excited about the upcoming season and the group of talented players that Coach Gregory is assembling."

Brannen was a three-year starter at Coe College, where he sits atop the school's record book in numerous categories, including career passing yards, attempts and completions. He was twice named as a first-team all-conference selection (2003, 2004).

"Re-signing Joe was among our top off-season priorities," said Gregory. "I'm confident that he will continue to develop into one of the top young quarterbacks in all of Arena Football".
