Brandon Obtains Mariapolis Product

Brandon, MB -- The Brandon Wheat Kings will have a new face in the lineup Wednesday night when they play game five of their 7-game western road swing in Spokane.

The Western Hockey League club has announced the acquisition of 19-year old Paul Van de Velde from the Everett Silvertips for a conditional pick in the 2010 Bantam Draft.

The Mariapolis, Manitoba product is pointless in ten games with the 'Tips this season, after scoring four goals and 13 points in 52 games during the 2008-09 campaign.

The 5-foot-11, 185 pound Van de Velde is a former teammate of Darren Bestland, Aaron Lewadniuk and Jay Fehr with the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League's Pembina Valley Hawks.

He also spent the 2007-2008 season with the Waywayseecappo Wolverines of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League but missed most of the season due to a knee injury.

Van de Velde will provide the Wheat Kings with a little more depth up front as Brandon currently has three forwards on the sidelines with injury.

While Mark Stone (broken thumb) and Jordan DePape (broken bone in his foot) are expected to miss at least another month, second year center Paul Ciarelli suffered an injury during practice on Monday and was unable to play in Tuesday's Overtime Shootout loss to the Winter Hawks in Portland.

Western Manitoba hockey fans will get their first chance to see Van de Velde in a Brandon uniform on Friday, November 6th when the Wheat Kings host the Prince Albert Raiders at Westman Place.
