Brahmas Win Big Over Bucks

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (December 28) - The Brahmas topped the Bucks on Wednesday night by the score of 4-1 behind a two-goal performance by Phil Fox and a near-perfect outing from goaltender Mark Guggenberger.

Texas started the scoring early when defenseman Erik Spady fired a slapshot from the point past Laredo goalie Torrie Jung just over two minutes into the game. For Spady, it was his first goal of the 2011-12 season and the first of his professional career.

The Brahmas never relinquished the lead from then on, proceeding to score three more times on Jung. Phil Fox scored two goals and assisted on another to increase his season point total to 22 (10 goals, 12 assists). Also, fellow rookie forward Jordan Kary scored his ninth goal of the season and picked up his 11th assist.

Guggenberger was dominant between the pipes for Texas, stopping 22 of 23 shots on goal and holding Laredo scoreless for the first 52:55 of the game. The rookie netminder improved to 8-3-2 with a .919 save percentage and a league-best 2.26 GAA in 2011-12.

The Brahmas improve to 11-2-2 when scoring the first goal of the game and 9-0-2 when leading after the first period of play. Texas also increased their current home point streak to 12 games, which dates back to October 30 when the Brahmas beat the Tulsa Oilers 3-1. The Brahmas have played their best hockey at home this season, going 8-2-4 at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

The Brahmas round out the new year on the road at Wichita on Friday, December 30 at 7:05pm and at Missouri on Saturday, December 31 at 7:05pm. The team returns home to North Richland Hills on Sunday, January 15 when they face off against the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees at the NYTEX Sports Centre at 5:00pm.
