Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. (December 28, 2011) - Quad City Mallards right wing Brandon Marino has been named a starter for the January 11 Central Hockey League All-Star Game in Prescott Valley, Arizona, the Mallards announced today in conjunction with the CHL.

Marino, 25, is tied for the league lead in goals (16) and shorthanded goals (3), tied for second in power play goals (6) and tied for fourth in points (35). The 5' 9", 185-pound Riverside, California, native's breakout season has helped propel the Mallards to a 15-10-1 record and third place in the CHL's Turner Conference.

"It's great to see Brandon get this much deserved credit for all he's accomplished so far this season," said Mallards coach and general manager David Bell. "He's is a major reason for our team's success thus far."

Marino continued his standout play last night, as he scored the winning goal and added an assist in the Mallards' 3-2 victory over the Rapid City Rush. He has now registered points in five straight games (4-3-7) and in 11 of his last 12 games (8-8-16). Last night's two-point effort was Marino's ninth multiple point game of the season.

Marino has already this year eclipsed his previous career high for goals in a season- he scored 13 in 73 games as a rookie in 2009-10; he scored his fourteenth goal in just his twenty-third game of this campaign. Marino scored ten goals and produced 38 points in 58 games last year after totaling 44 points in his first pro season.

Before joining the Mallards, Marino helped Cinderella story Bemidji State to a berth in the 2009 NCAA Frozen Four. Marino scored seven goals and notched 19 points in 36 games in 2008-09 and rang up 15 goals and 51 points in 116 games over his four years as a Beaver. He played junior hockey for three seasons in the British Columbia and North American leagues before enrolling at BSU.

The All-Star game will see the CHL All-Stars meet the host Arizona Sundogs. Last year the All-Stars- featuring the Mallards' Darren McMillan- defeated the host Rapid City Rush 11-6 in the league's midseason showpiece.
