Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - On Groundhog's day the Texas Brahmas were looking for an early spring in hopes of a playoff vision as they were victorious over the CHL defending champions Colorado Eagles, 6-4, Saturday night at the NYTEX Sports Centre.

The Brahmas started on a shaky note as goaltender David Cacciola gave up a goal on the Eagles first shot from Ed McGrane :37 seconds in. Texas continued to battle and forward Tyler Skworchinski was rewarded for the hard work with an even strength goal on Colorado netminder Sebastien Laplante.

Texas' leading goal scorer Anders Strome joined the action in the second period tallying his 21st goal of the season, extending his point streak to seven games. Cacciola was able to stop all eight shots contested in the second, causing both teams to leave their benches to the second intermission tied 2-2.

The fun was not quite over yet for the fans at the NYTEX Sports Centre as Skworchinski netted his second goal of the night at the 8:27 mark in the third period, his second two-goal game in back to back nights. Colorado was able to beat Cacciola again in the third but Texas' newest face Kevin Korol put the Brahmas back up 4-3 with his second goal of the season.

Colorado in desperation pulled their goaltender with 1:20 remaining in the final period only to have Brahmas sharp shooter Scott Sheppard to find the puck in the back of the net to put Texas up 5-3. The defending champs did not go down easily as Ed McGrane with just over one minute remaining shot the puck high on Cacciola to put the Eagles within one.

Brahmas forward Greg McConnell was back in action after spending time on the IR and put the Eagles away with the second empty net goal of the night for Texas. The Brahmas extended their winning streak to four games with the 6-4 victory.

The Brahmas are now 21-17-1 and will hit the road for some Northeast divisional games starting in Youngstown Tuesday morning and Wednesday evening and ending Saturday in Bossier-Shreveport. Texas will return home to the NYTEX Sports Centre Sunday, February 10 to play a matinee game against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 3:05 PM.
