Bucks Drill For Oil: Beat Tulsa 6-1

LAREDO, TX- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League beat the Tulsa Oilers 6-1 Saturday night, in front of 4,006 fans at the Laredo Entertainment Center. The Bucks won their third straight game to pick up their 30th win of the season (30-13-2, 62pts). Laredo joins Bossier-Shreveport as the only two CHL teams with 30 wins so far.

The Bucks win coupled with Arizona's loss puts them 10 points ahead of the Sundogs for the number one seed in the Southern Conference playoffs.

The Bucks picked up right where they left off the night before, scoring the first four goals of the game en route to a 4-1 lead after one.

Andrew Desjardins put the Bucks (19-5 at home) on the board just 1:59 into the first period, as he sent a slap shot from the bottom of the left circle past Tulsa goaltender Guy St. Vincent. It was Desjardins 15th goal of the season, with James Hiebert and Jeff Bes picking up assists.

Laredo made it 2-0 5:52 into the period when Bes took the puck at the right point, swooped to the right circle and sent a shot from the left of the slot past St. Vincent. It was Bes' 29th goal of the season. Hiebert and Adam Rivet picked up assists.

The Bucks struck again, this time on the power-play, at the 10:14 mark when Paul Elliott sent a slap shot from the point past St. Vincent. It was Elliott's thired goal of the season, with David Victor and Chris Korchinski notching assists.

Elliott's goal sent St. Vincent to the net as he was replaced in net by Jeff Vy Nynatten.

Laredo was not done as they made it 4-0 at the 13:06 mark when Igor Agarunov scored from the left hash mark past Vy Nynatten, with Korchinski and Steve Simoes getting assists.

Tulsa (14-24-3, 31pts) cut the Laredo lead to 4-1 at the 17:39 mark of the period, when Warren McCutcheon took a pass from Paul Kelly and scored from the slot past Bucks goaltender John Ceci on the power-play. The goal was the first allowed by Ceci in the last 39 shots he faced, Ceci stopped all 26 shots he faced the night before, and set aside the first 12 he faced Saturday night.

Despite the 4-1 lead, Laredo was outshot 14-13 in the period.

The Bucks scored once in the second period to increase their lead to 5-1 after two.

Laredo added a goal in the third to make it a 6-1 final. Korchinski stuffed a rebound pas Vy Nynatten at the 11:38 mark of the third with Simoes picking up his second assist of the game.

With Laredo short-handed Rivet chased the puck down at the right point of the Oilers end, then sent the puck past Vy Nynatten from the bottom of the right circle. Rivet's goal was his 14th of the year, and the teams CHL-leading 12th short-handed goal of the campagin. The short-handed goal was the first for the Bucks since January 12th against Bossier.

The Bucks outshot the Oilers in the second period 12-9.

Dustin Traylen replaced Ceci in net at the start of the second period as Ceci tweaked a muscle, but as a precaution Traylen was sent in the game. Traylen stopped all nine shots he faced in the period.

Ceci picked up his second win in a row to even his record to 3-3, while Traylen shook off his bad game the night before stopping all 16 shots he faced.

Tulsa's four-game winning streak was snapped with the loss.

The Bucks will be off until next weekend when they play Austin in a three-game weekend series, with Friday and Saturday taking place at the Chaparral Ice Arena, and Sunday at the LEC.
