Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (November 8) - The Brahmas continued their offensive surge from Saturday, finding the back of the net often Tuesday night in a convincing 5-3 win over Missouri.
The Mavericks got on the board first, with a goal from Andrew Courtney just two minutes into the game. But with two goals late in the first period (scored by Calin Wild and T.J. Fox), the Brahmas led by a goal heading into the second period, 2-1.
Texas forward Brendon Hodge got the second period scoring started with his second goal in as many games, but Missouri answered with a shorthanded, unassisted goal by Kris Hogg. But late in the period, after the Mavericks' Carlyle Lewis was sent off the ice for a five minute major for charging and a ten minute game misconduct added on, the Brahmas tacked on two powerplay goals, one from captain Adam Hogg, and the other from Jordan Kary. For Hogg, it was his second straight game with a powerplay goal, after the Brahmas didn't score one for the first five games of the season.
Brahmas' goalie Mark Guggenberger stopped 29 of the 32 shots he faced, picking up his second win in as many starts this season. On the other side of the ice, Mavs' netminder Gerry Festa struggled, allowing five goals on 29 shots.
Texas went 2-3 on the powerplay, while Missouri went 0-2, as the Brahmas handed the Mavs their first loss in regulation (6-1-1).
Texas improves to 3-4-0 on the season, and looks forward to two games at home this weekend against Bloomington. The Brahmas take on the Blaze Fri, Nov. 11 at 7:30 pm ($1 hot dog night) and Sat, Nov. 12 at 7:30 pm (rally towel night) at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
