Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - For Texas Brahmas Head Coach Dan Wildfong, there is no place like home. Wildfong returned to Bossier-Shreveport, where he played eight seasons, but this time behind the bench for the Brahmas. Before the game, the Mudbugs celebrated Wildfong's return with a video and ceremonial tribute, but after the game, the Brahmas had a celebration of their own with a 5-4 victory.
Brahmas forward, Scott Sheppard, opened the game with a goal in the first minute of play, marking his third for the season. The Mudbugs answered back with two of their own from captain Chris Bassard. The period was filled with strong physical plays, including a fight between Brahmas forward Greg McConnell and Mudbugs goal scorer, Chris Bassard.
In the second period, Brahmas forward Grant Jacobsen, tied up the game with a goal past Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll. At the nine minute mark, Mudbugs forward, Chris Bassard, completed the hat trick to give his team the 3-2 lead.
In the third, with 13 minutes remaining in the game and being down one goal, Anders Strome put one past Carroll to tie the game at 3-3. As the game picked up physically as both teams completed checks and delivered hard hits, Texas Brahmas' Kevin McLeod and Grant Jacobsen assisted in a Greg McConnell goal, to give the Brahmas their first lead in the game.
Texas never looked back as enforcer Robin Big Snake unleashed one of his own off the faceoff on a Brahmas' power play. With only a few minutes left in the game, Bossier-Shreveport Head Coach, Scott Muscutt, replaced goalie Ken Carroll with John DeCaro.
Before the Brahmas could put another 'W' in the record book, the Mudbugs showed some life with a Joe Ori goal with just over one minute remaining in the game. But the Mudbugs could not overcome the Brahmas hard work and effort.
Brahmas goaltender, David Cacciola stopped 32 of 36 shots, most coming in the second period. The Texas Brahmas return home undefeated and ready to face the Mudbugs next Saturday, October 27 for their home opener at the NYTEX Sports Centre.
