Bes Gets OT Winner, Sets Goal Record For Bucks

RIO RANCHO, NM- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League came from behind to beat the New Mexico Scorpions in overtime Saturday night at the Santa Ana Star Center. Veteran Jeff Bes scored 2:58 into the extra session, not only giving the Bucks the win, but becoming the franchises all-time leader in goals scored with 121. Bes passed his former line mate Chris Grenville for the record. The Bucks trailed by scores of 3-0, and 4-1 before coming back to pick up the win. The Scorpions got first period goals from Aaron MacInnis, Chris Robertson, and Dominic Osman to take the early advantage. The Bucks got on the board in the second period when James Hibert knocked in a power-play goal, making it 3-1 Scorpions. Bes and Igor Agarunov picked up assists. The Scorpions (0-1-1, 1pt) made it 4-1 at 11:15 of the second when Craig MacDonald scored.

Then it was all Laredo.

The Bucks (2-0-0, 4 pts) comeback started when Hiebert netted his second goal of the game at 11:40, with Bes and Serge Dube picking up the assists. Steve Simoes cut the New Mexico lead to 4-3 with just 12 seconds left in the second period when he scored from the right corner, knocking the puck off of the stake of Scorpions goalie Mike Minard. Adam Rivet tied the game at four with a power-play goal for the Bucks at 13:50. Bes and Dube picked up the assists.

Then came Bes heroics in overtime as he sent a shot right past Minard, setting off the celebration for the Bucks. Dube picked up the assist. Bes finished with one goal and three assists, while Dube handed out three assists for the second straight game. Hiebert notched two goals again, giving him four for the season.

Dustin Traylen saved 31 shots for the Bucks as he improved to 2-0. Minard took the loss in the Scorpions net.
