Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Despite dominating the first two periods Saturday night at the CenturyTel Center , the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs couldn't come out of their home opener with a win. The Texas Brahmas rallied in the third period to win the game 5-4.
Chris Brassard and Darryl Lloyd were on fire for the Mudbugs offensively, as Lloyd set up all three Brassard goals and the Captain had a hat trick before the halfway point of the game.
It didn't start out too well for Bossier-Shreveport in this one, as they were stung by a pair of former Mudbugs only 33 seconds in, when Blair Manning set up Scott Sheppard to put to Brahmas up 1-0. The home team answered right back though, as Brassard scored his first goal of the night from Lloyd and Elias Godoy only 2:06 later to tie the game. Before the period was out, Brassard would get another goal, burying Lloyd's pass from the corner behind Texas Goaltender David Cacciola for a 2-1 lead after one.
In the second period, Texas got even with a Grant Jacobsen goal at 6:33 of the period. Then the Brahmas got another dose of the 27-to-14 connection. At the nine minute mark of the second frame, Lloyd slid a pass from behind the net to a streaking Brassard in the slot, and the Captain did the rest, scoring to put the âBugs up 3-2 after 40 minutes of play.
At the end of the second Bossier-Shreveport held a 30-8 advantage over Texas in shots on goal, but that quickly changed in the third. The Brahmas scored three consecutive goals in the period to take a 5-3 lead with just over 5:00 to go in regulation. After the fifth goal, Ken Carroll was pulled from the net and John DeCaro entered to finish the game. The Mudbugs cut the lead to one though with 1:12 left, as Joe Ori scored on a rebound from Brassard and Daniel Pegoraro to make it 5-4. Cacciola shut the door from there on to seal the win for Texas ; he finished with 32 saves.
Bossier-Shreveport out shot Texas 36-23 for the game, and finished 1-for-6 on the power play. The Brahmas were 1-for-5 with the man advantage.
Texas improves to 2-0 this year while the Mudbugs are 0-2 and still searching for their first win of this very young CHL season. Bossier-Shreveport will be off until next Friday, when they are at home for their second meeting with the Mississippi RiverKings before they make their first trip to Texas to play the Brahmas next Saturday night.
