SOUTHAVEN, MISSISSIPPI - Saturday night saw the Youngstown SteelHounds improve their record to 2-0-0 with a 4-3 victory over Northeast Division rival the Mississippi RiverKings.

The RiverKings struck first as Derek Landmesser notched a power play goal just 1:42 into the game to give Mississippi a 1-0 lead. Jeff Alcombrack answered back for the Hounds with a power play goal of his own to tie the game with under nine minutes to play. The Hounds were not finished as Joel Irving scored his first of two, this on the power play to give the Hounds a 2-1 lead after one period. The Hounds were 2-6 with the man advantage.

The second period started out like the first with Mississippi tying the game thanks to Chad Wollard's first of the season at the 3:37 mark. Youngstown grabbed the lead back thanks to Eric Przepiorka's first goal as a SteelHound just 1:14 later. The RiverKings did not go quietly as Ryan Campbell tied the game off a Derek Landmesser shot to make it 3-3 after two periods.

The RiverKings were just 1-10 on the power play and in the third period Youngstown's Joel Irving notched his second of the night and third of the season, this short handed with 6:01 to play to give the Hounds the 4-3 lead and eventual victory.

Andy Franck was named the games first star as he stopped 28 of 31 Mississippi shots to lead the Hounds to a 2-0-0 record (4points). The RiverKings are now 1-1-0 (2points).

On tap for the Hounds is a quick drive home to relax before staying on the road for 25 days to finish off this 14 game road trip to start the season. Tomorrow evening is Coach Kaminski's second annual "Halloween Cup" at the Chevrolet Centre starting at 5:00. This event is open to the public as the Hounds will play in a three-on-three tournament dressed in their Halloween costumes. A $5 donation is all that is asked.
