Bradenton Marauders News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. - A first-inning home run by Clearwater's Marcus Lee Sang would give the visiting Threshers the game's only runs Saturday night as the Marauders fell, 2-0, at LECOM Park.

The Marauders (25-31) managed a season-low two hits, both singles, and never placed a runner into scoring position as four Clearwater (29-26) pitchers combined on the shutout.

The loss ensured that the Marauders (25-31) will go a sixth consecutive series without a series win, dating back to their April 26 through May 1 series win over Dunedin.

Marauders starter Carlos Jimenez (1-5) began the game by issuing a walk to Nicolas Torres. After getting a pair of flyouts to center field, Marcus Lee Sang launched a 1-1 pitch from Jimenez over the wall in right-center for a two-run homer.

Jimenez recovered to retire the next five straight batters and lasted four innings, allowing just two hits in the rest of his outing. The Marauders bullpen held the Threshers scoreless the rest of the way to keep the game within reach, as Darvin Garcia pitched two shutout innings, Johan Montero and Cristian Charle pitched a scoreless seventh and eighth, respectively, and Jack Hartman and Denny Roman teamed up in the ninth to keep Clearwater off the scoreboard.

Bradenton, however, never mounted a substantial offensive threat. Threshers starter Jean Cabrera (1-2) earned the win, pitching five scoreless innings and allowing just two walks, a Brenden Dixon bunt single in the first inning, and a Sergio Campana line drive single in the fourth. The closest the Marauders came to placing a runner into scoring position was in the fifth, when Deivis Nadal drew a two-out walk but was thrown out on a close play at second base by Arturo de Freitas on an attempted steal.

Rehabbing Phillies left-hander Ryan Sherriff tossed a scoreless sixth inning for Clearwater, right-hander Rodolfo Sanchez allowed just one walk in two innings, and Konnor Ash retired the Marauders in order in the ninth inning for the save. An Angel Basabe walk was Bradenton's only baserunner across the final three innings.

Jase Bowen went 0-for-4 for the Marauders, ending both an eight-game hit streak and a 13-game on-base streak, and Mike Jarvis' season-high five-game hit streak ended with an 0-for-4 night.

The Marauders will play for the series split on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. at LECOM Park. LHP Jake Sweeney (1-0, 4.15 ERA) will start for the Marauders against Clearwater LHP Matt Osterberg (0-4, 4.50 ERA).
