Brockton Rox News Release

Durham, N.C. - A day before the Brockton Rox started their best-of-five semifinal playoff series against the top-seeded Quebec Capitales, shortstop Dominic Ramos and outfielders Chris Valencia and Keith Brachold were selected to the Can-Am League's post-season all-star team on Tuesday, in a poll of league managers and media members.

Ramos appeared in 86 of the club's 93 games and was once again superb on defense, anchoring the Brockton infield. At the plate, the Pflugerville, Texas, native hit .284 to go along with four home runs, 34 RBI, a career-high 23 doubles, and 17 stolen bases, second-most on the team. Now in his fourth season with the Rox, Ramos is third on the club's career hit list with 406, and fourth all-time with 355 games played for the franchise.

Prior to Brockton, Ramos, 28, spent a season with the Worcester Tornadoes and two years in the Boston Red Sox system, reaching as high as Single-A. He played collegiately at Texas Southern.

Valencia led the Rox in numerous offensive categories and was among the league leaders in batting average (.342 - third in the Can-Am League), hits (132 - first), doubles (30 - second), triples (8 - tied for second), stolen bases (41 - second) and runs scored (76 - tied for first). He was one of two Rox players to appear in all 93 of the team's games. The 76 runs, 30 doubles and 41 stolen bases were also Rox single-season franchise records. It was the third consecutive 100-hit season for the 2009 Can-Am League Rookie of the Year and the July 2011 Can-Am League player of the month, originally from Los Angeles, whose college baseball was played at Lewis-Clark State.

Brachold was consistently atop the league leaderboard in a variety of offensive categories throughout the season, finishing first with 80 RBI (a Rox single-season record), second with 18 home runs and a .570 slugging percentage, and fifth with a .334 average and 119 hits. The Franklin, Mass., native also holds the Brockton career record with 53 home runs, and is second with 234 RBI. 2011 marked the sixth professional season for Brachold, who spent time in the Frontier League and United League after completing his college career at Marist.

Brockton was the only club with three players named to the eleven-man team. It was the first Can-Am League all-star award for all three players. Four members of the Rox were named to the team in 2010 (C Chris Grossman, 1B Melvin Falu, RHP Mike Smith, LHP Mike Wlodarczyk).

The Rox, who qualified for the Can-Am League playoffs on Sunday, the final day of their regular season, will face top-seeded Quebec on Wednesday at Le Stade at 7:05 p.m. Zach Woods will be on the bump for Brockton, facing the Capitales' Bryan Rembisz, the league's righthanded pitcher of the year.
