New York Boulders News Release
(Quebec City, Que, June 29) - Keith Brachold slugged his 13th home run of the season to tie for the league lead and MacKenzie King turned in a solid outing in his first start, but it wasn't enough as the Rockland Boulders fell to the Quebec Capitales, 4-3 at Le Stade Municipal. The loss snapped the Boulders three-game winning streak, as the first place Capitales picked up their fifth win in their last seven overall.
Quebec struck first in the opening frame off Rockland's MacKenzie King, making his first start of the season. Jeff Helps led off with a walk, moved to third on a Sebastian Boucher double, and scored on a Josue Peley sac fly. While Capitales starter Jeff Duda struggled with his control early on, the Boulders were unable to take advantage, mustering just a Keith Brachold single through four innings.
King settled in nicely and did not allow another Quebec hit until two were out in the last of the fourth, when Steve Brown sent a 1-2 offering out of the park to put his squad up by a pair. Rockland got on the board in the sixth as Keith Brachold's one-out solo shot brought the Boulders to within one.
Duda gave way after the sixth, having yielded just the one run on three hits while striking out six and walking two. King registered similar numbers in his six innings, allowing two runs on four hits while also striking out six and walking two. The bullpen did not help Rockland as Quebec added insurance in their half of the seventh off Nicolas Blanco and Garret Johnson, pushing across a pair on RBI singles by Josh Colafemina and Jeff Helps to extend their edge to 4-1.
A pair of uncharacteristic errors by the Capitales in the eighth allowed Cole Kraft and Ryan Scoma to score, but closer TJ Stanton was brought on to record the final two outs and escape further damage. Stanton would work a scoreless ninth to secure the victory and earn his eighth save of the season. King was saddled with his first loss to fall to 1-1 while Duda kept his perfect season alive by improving his record to 6-0. Brachold recorded a pair of hits for the Boulders while Helps and Boucher added two each for the hosts.
The setback dropped the Boulders to 3-2 in their seven-game road trip which will see the Boulders play two more games in Quebec After a day off on Monday, the team will return to Rockland for a big three-game holiday series against the New Jersey Jackals on July 3-4-5. The July 3 contest will be 3-D fireworks night, as the first 4,000 fans will receive 3-D glasses with which to enjoy the Fireworks Extravaganza show, courtesy of Ramsey Auto Group. On Wednesday, July 4, the Boulders celebrate with Dollar Hot Dogs as well as a Hot Dog Eating Contest, with a Fireworks Extravaganza show after the game.
