New York Boulders News Release
(Worcester, MA, June 8) - Keith Brachold crashed his sixth homer of the young season and drove in four runs while Bobby Blevins went the distance, striking out 10 as the Rockland Boulders rolled to a 12-2 victory over the Worcester Tornadoes at Hanover Insurance Park. The win was Rockland's fifth straight, the longest in their brief history, and fourth straight on the road - also a new team mark. Jose Canseco hit his first home run for Worcester, a two-run shot in the fourth, accounting for their only runs of the evening.
It took just three batters for the visitors to get on the board, as Qualon Millender reached on a one-out single and Brachold took Worcester's Dan Sausville deep to left center on the first pitch for a 2-0 advantage. They added another pair in the third when, after loading the bases with nobody out, Brachold stroked a two-run single. The Boulders assumed control in the fourth with three more runs, as Cole Kraft came home on a balk, and Jon Smith followed with a two-run shot. It was the second homer in as many games for Smith, who has gone 4-for-10 since joining the team on June 5.
Blevins was in top form early, retiring the first 11 Tornado batters to face him, five by strikeout. The home team did stage a two-out rally in the fourth when Jerod Edmondson singled and Canseco put one out of the park. As they did in their sweep at Newark in which Rockland outscored the hosts by a 33-10 margin, the Boulders kept tacking on runs, adding single markers in the fifth and eighth innings and a two-run shot from Ryan Mollica as part of a three-run ninth.
With the win, Blevins improves to 2-3 on the season while Sausville was tagged with his first loss, falling to 3-1. Mollica continued his torrid hitting of late, going 3-for-5, the third straight game he has accounted for three-or-more hits. The left-handed hitting slugger has now gone 10-for-15 over the last three games and is batting .364 on the season.
Rockland takes on the Tornadoes in game two of the three-game weekend set tomorrow, Saturday, June 9. They will then play two games in New Jersey against the Jackals before returning to Provident Bank Park for a season-long 10-game homestand, starting on Friday, June 15.
