BOWLING GREEN, KY. - A three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth inning was the difference Saturday in the Bowling Green Hot Rods' 4-1 win against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods claimed their third series victory in nine tries versus the Kernels all-time by winning Saturday's rubber game.

The contest started as a pitchers' duel between Josh Fleming and Bryan Sammons. Fleming recorded a personal-best six innings pitched and a career-high-tying five strikeouts while allowing just one run. Sammons also yielded only one run and tallied four strikeouts over 5.1 innings.

Cedar Rapids (15-15) took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning before Bowling Green (22-13) tied the game during the fifth. Royce Lewis clubbed a one-out double and scored for the Kernels on Shane Carrier's RBI single. The Hot Rods loaded the bases to start the fifth, and Vidal Brujan was hit by a pitch to force in Moises Gomez.

Within the eighth, Bowling Green broke the tie and secured a 4-1 edge. Taylor Walls and Zach Rutherford hit back-to-back singles to put runners at the corners. Zac Law followed with a go-ahead double that brought in Walls. Ronaldo Hernandez posted a sacrifice fly that plated Rutherford, and Gomez added a double to drive Law home.

Tyler Zombro (4-0) garnered his team-high fourth win by keeping the Kernels scoreless over the final three innings Saturday. He worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh and stranded a runner at third during the eighth to earn the victory.

Jose Martinez (0-2) allowed three runs over 2.2 innings pitched within a losing decision. His scoreless inning streak was snapped at 11.1 innings with the Hot Rods' decisive eighth-inning rally.
