West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The West Michigan Whitecaps, in conjunction with the Detroit Tigers, announced today that catcher Joe Bowen is activated from the disabled list. Adrian Casanova, who was called up to fill in for Bowen during his injury, is moved off the Whitecaps roster and to extended spring training in Lakeland, Fla.
Bowen had been on the D.L. since April 10 with a hyperextended elbow. Bowen is hitting .111 (2-for-18) with no home runs and one RBI through four games and has not played since April 9. The switch-hitting catcher from Ocala, Fla., was selected by the Tigers in the 12th round of the 2006 draft and is in his third season of professional baseball.
Casanova hit .385 (5-for-13) with two runs and one RBI in four games in Bowen's absence. The Miami, Fla., native split time between short-season Oneonta (21 games) and High-A Lakeland (27 games) in 2007. Casanova was drafted by the Tigers in the 40th round in 2006 after playing two seasons at Clemson University.
