Rockland County, NY - Zach Kirtley knocked in two runs with a single in New York's four-run fifth inning and then the Boulders held off a late surge by the Washington Wild Things for a 4-3 win on Sunday night at Palisades Credit Union Park.

The win, coupled with Tri-City's doubleheader sweep of Equipe Quebec, placed the Boulders in first place in the Atlantic Division by 1 1/2 games.

The Boulders got to Washington starter Keven Pimentel for all of their runs in the fifth inning. Gian Martellini led off with a walk before Zach Penprase singled. Milton Smith, Jr, then attempted to sacrifice the runners over but legged out the bunt to load the bases.

Jack Sundberg hit a liner that Pimentel smothered, however he threw wildly to the plate, allowing Martellini to score and keeping the bases loaded. Zach Kirtley then laced a two-run single to left-center to make it a 3-0 game. An out later, Ray Hernandez' sacrifice fly to center plated Sundberg with New York's fourth run.

Meanwhile, the Boulders got 5 2/3 innings of scoreless pitching from starter Orsen Josephina, who, despite walking six, was able to bob and weave out of trouble by allowing only one hit - a second inning double by Grant Heyman. Josephina struck out five before giving way to James Mulry in the sixth inning.

The Wild Things did touch up Mulry for a run in the seventh inning courtesy of a solo home run by Andrew Czech, his seventh of the season, then inched to within one run at 4-3 on a two-run, eighth-inning home run off the bat of Bralin Jackson, his fifth of the year, against New York reliever Luke Burton.

Dylan Smith got the last two outs of the eighth inning for the Boulders to keep it a one-run game; then Tanner Kiest pitched a scoreless night for his fourth save of the year.

Josephina got the win to improve to 2-0 on the year; while Pimentel was tagged with the loss, evening his season mark to 3-3.
