Washington Wild Things News Release
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY - A four-run fifth for the Boulders held up barely, but held up as New York swept the rain-shortened series against the Wild Things with a 4-3 win at Palisades Credit Union Park.
New York got the scoring started after the starters worked scoreless innings through the first half of the ballgame. In the home fifth, New York plated four runs. The first scored on a fielder's choice on which Keven Pimentel threw home high for an error. The next batter, Zach Kirtley, hit a two-run single to make it 3-0 and Jack Sundberg, who hit the fielder's choice, scored on a sacrifice fly by Ray Hernandez.
Boulders' starter Orsen Josephina allowed seven free passes (six walks and one HBP) to the Wild Things, who failed to scratch across a run against the righty and only had one hit through Josephina's 5.2 innings. He picked up the win to go to 2-0 while Pimentel suffered the loss, falling to 3-3 after five innings of work, in which he allowed four runs, two earned.
Washington got on the scoreboard with Andrew Czech's seventh home run of the season, which came in the seventh. With the homer, Czech extended his hit streak to 12 games, which is the longest active such streak in the Frontier League.
Bralin Jackson's fifth home run of the season, a two-run blast that scored Jackson and Nick Ward, made it a 4-3 game in the eighth. Ward was on base for the fourth time consecutively via walk. Washington was able to get the tying run to third in the ninth but couldn't score it.
The Wild Things now return to Wild Things Park for a six-game homestand that starts Tuesday with the first of three against the New Jersey Jackals. The homestand includes fireworks on Friday, Negro League Tribute Night Saturday with a bobblehead giveaway and a Kids Eat Free Sunday with a Nightmare Before Christmas in July theme, as well as the usual promotions and fun at the ballyard.
Tickets, at 100% capacity, are available at wildthingstickets.com and by calling the box office or stopping up at it. The Wild Things' front office and ticket office will be closed Monday in observance of the holiday. It will open at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
