Boulders Hit 7 Home Runs in Rout of ValleyCats

The New York Boulders hit seven home runs, including a pair by Gabriel Garcia and Max Smith, as well as a grand slam from Chris Kwitzer, as they routed the host Tri-City Valley Cats, 21-4, on Thursday at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy, NY.
Garcia's two homers, Kwitzer's slam, as well as a solo home run by Smith all came in a 10-run Boulders' sixth inning that saw them bolt out to a commanding 14-2 lead.
Smith added a two-run homer in the six-run New York seventh inning to give the Boulders a 19-2 lead. Jake MacKenzie tacked on a solo shot later in the frame, his 10th of the year, to push the New York advantage to 20-2.
Almost lost amidst all the New York home runs was a strong start on the mound by Alex Mack, who went six innings, allowing only four hits and two runs, while walking four and striking out six as he improved to 5-1 on the season.
In the rout, the Boulders pounded out a team record 22 base hits, one more than the old mark which they tied two days earlier in a 23-8 victory over the Valley Cats.
In the sixth, Garcia's two-run home run gave New York a 6-2 lead. An Austin Dennis RBI groundout and Giovanni Garbella being hit by a pitch with the bases load extended the visitors' advantage to 8-2. Kwitzer followed with his grand slam that pushed the Boulders' lead to 12-2.
Garcia and Smith followed with homers as the Boulders went back-to-back-to-back to increase the New York lead to 14-2.
Garcia stretched his consecutive game home run streak to five games as he increased his season total to eight. Kwitzer's long ball was his 10th of the year, while Smith's two gave him eight.
Kwitzer also had a two-run double in the seventh, his fourth hit of the day, to give him six RBI in the victory.
New York also got a solo home run from Al Reda in the third inning, his first of the year, the drive getting the Boulders on the scoreboard and cutting their deficit to 2-1. Later in that inning, a Dennis run-scoring double leveled the game at 2-2.
The Boulders took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning when David Vinsky scored on a throwing error by Tri-City catcher Joe Campagna and Dennis crossed the plate on a wild pitch by Valley Cats' starter Joey Gonzalez.
Tri-City opened the scoring in the first inning on a solo home run by Brantley Bell, his eighth of the year. They made it 2-0 in the second on an RBI double by Campagna.
Gonzalez took the loss for the Valley Cats, his first defeat of the season after five wins.
