Tri-City ValleyCats News Release
TROY, NY - The ValleyCats and New York Boulders wrapped up their series Thursday morning at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium.
Right hander Joey Gonzalez took the ball for the 'Cats, while Alex Mack would toe the rubber for the Boulders.
Following a 1-2-3 top of the first inning, the 'Cats would get on the board in the bottom half of the inning. Designated hitter Brantley Bell would launch his eighth home run of the season, an opposite field shot that landed in the Boulders bullpen. In the bottom half of the second, catcher Joey Campagna would add to the lead with an RBI double, making it a 2-0 lead for Tri-City.
The Boulders offense would remain dormant until the top of the third inning when Alfonso Reda would launch a solo shot, and an RBI double from Austin Dennis would tie the game for New York. The Boulders would add two more in the fifth inning as well, both runs being unearned. The 4-2 lead New York had possession of would never be surrendered.
The sixth and seventh innings featured a barrage of hits from the Boulders offense, plating a combined sixteen runs in the two frames. Former ValleyCat Chris Kwitzer had six RBI in the sixth inning alone, hitting a lead off double and a grand slam home run later in the sixth inning. New York added one more run in the top of the ninth inning on a Jake MacKenzie RBI single to give the Boulders a 21-2 lead.
The 'Cats offense would remain quiet until the ninth inning, when two runs would score. Mitch Piatnik would record his first RBI as a ValleyCats this season with a single, plating Juan Silverio. 2022 Frontier League All-Star Pavin Parks would add an RBI to his season total, singling home Piatnik for the final run of the game.
