York Revolution News Release
(July 5, 2016, Bridgeport, Ct.) - Adron Chambers tied the game with a home run in the seventh and sent the Bridgeport Bluefish home with a walk-off single in the ninth as the York Revolution fell 6-5 on Tuesday night at Harbor Yard. The first half Freedom Division champion Revs (40-32) fall to 0-2 in the second half, and will look to avoid the sweep on Wednesday night.
York jumped ahead with four runs in the third inning. Brandon Chaves chopped a single up the middle to lead things off, and Michael Rockett ripped a one-out single to right. With two outs, Jared Mitchell singled to right field, driving home the first run. Joel Guzman followed with a two-run double to the gap in left-center, increasing his league-leading total to 50 RBI on the season. Andres Perez then belted an RBI double to the left field corner for a 4-0 lead.
Bridgeport responded right away as Jose Gil singled to right and Chambers doubled to right-center to put runners at second and third. Luis Hernandez then blooped an RBI single to left to put the Bluefish on the board. A double steal brought Chambers home to make it 4-2, though Hernandez was alertly tagged out by Chaves at shortstop after coming off the bag at second.
Jose Cuevas led off the home fourth with a home run down the left field line, and an Endy Chavez single through the right side plated Gil with the tying run in the fifth, deadlocking things at 4-4. Revs starter Ty'Relle Harris struck out the final two batters to strand two runners, however.
York went back in front on a Chaves sac fly to center in the sixth, taking a 5-4 lead. Harris then closed his outing with a 1-2-3 sixth inning, striking out a pair to give him nine punchouts on the night, a Revs' season-best.
Bridgeport would tie it again in the seventh, as Chambers launched a homer to right on a 3-2 pitch from reliever Luis Perdomo, one pitch after just missing a home run in foul territory.
After a scoreless eighth from Julio DePaula, Manny Corpas set down the first two batters in the bottom of the ninth, but Gil (3-for-4) lined a double into the right field corner, and Chambers (3-for-4) followed with the game-winning single up the middle, just past the glove of Corpas (1-1). Center fielder Travis Witherspoon made a strong throw to the plate, but Gil just slid in with the winning run.
Gil and Chambers combined to go 6-for-8 with two RBI and five runs scored from the eighth and ninth spots in the order, respectively.
Bridgeport reliever David Carpenter (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless top of the ninth.
Notes: The Revs suffer their third walk-off loss, compared to three walk-off wins. York has dropped five of its last six against Bridgeport after winning the first six meetings of the year. The four-run lead matches the biggest in a loss this season for the third time (April 28 vs. Sugar Land and June 10 at Sugar Land). Witherspoon (1-for-4) has now hit safely in 15 of 18 games with York. Perez (1-for-3, RBI double) is now 12-for-21 with seven extra-base hits and nine RBI over his last five games played. Rockett (1-for-3) has now hit safely in 21 of his last 24 games. York righty Micah Owings (2-3, 4.75) faces Bridgeport right-hander Blake Beavan (3-2, 4.12) on Wednesday at 7:12 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, woyk1350.com, and on the WOYK mobile app beginning at 6:52 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
