
Bluefish walk off in ninth to secure series win against York

(Bridgeport, CT- July 5, 2016) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (2-0, 32-40) defeated the York Revolution (0-2, 40-32) 6-5 in walk-off fashion on Tuesday evening at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Bridgeport wins their second straight against the Revs, registering their 12th come-from-behind victory while improving to 17-16 on the season at home. York drops to 12-11 in games decided by a single run.
Bridgeport Starting Pitcher David Kubiak registered a no-decision in his second start of the campaign for the 'Fish and first since returning to the Park City. The right-hander allowed four runs on seven hits in five innings on the mound, striking out six and allowing one free pass. York Starting Pitcher Ty'Relle Harris also did not factor into the final outcome of the game, as the former member of the Bluefish allowed four runs (three earned runs) on eight hits in six innings pitched, striking out a season-high nine while giving up a home run. David Carpenter (1-0) earned the victory out of the bullpen for Bridgeport, retiring the side in order in the top of the ninth inning and striking out a batter. Manny Corpus (1-1) suffered the loss for the York, giving up a run on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.
The Revolution got off to a strong start in the top half of the third inning, sending eight batters to the plate against Kubiak, scoring four runs on five hits. Brandon Chaves was the first to be sent home as Jared Mitchell laced a single giving York their first run of the evening. Mitchell and Michael Rockett would then be driven in by Joel Guzman one batter later, as the Atlantic League RBI leader picked up two more with a double to put York up 3-0. Guzman would cross the plate to make it 4-0 in favor of the visitors on a run-scoring double by Andres Perez.
The Bluefish would march back into the game in the next two innings, putting up four unanswered runs to knot the game up heading into the sixth inning. The rally began in the home half of the third, as Luis Hernandez singled to send Jose Gil across the plate. Hernandez would then attempt to steal second base with nobody out, but overshoot the base and be tagged out. Meanwhile, Adron Chambers scored from third while the attention was on Hernandez, making the score 4-2 in favor of York after three innings of play. A leadoff home run by Jose Cuevas to left field in the bottom of the fourth inning cut Bridgeport's deficit to one at 4-3. The game was tied in the bottom of the fifth when Gil was driven in by Endy Chavez, tying the game at four. York regained the lead in the top of the sixth when Chaves lifted a sacrifice fly which allowed Kevin Rivers to cross the plate, making the score 5-4. Chambers tied the game at five in the bottom of the seventh with his his second home run of the season at the hands of former Bluefish relief pitcher Luis Perdomo. Bridgeport would walk off for the fifth time in 2016 in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, when Chambers singled right through the trademark to send Gil home with the winning run, and the celebration was on as Chambers was mobbed by his teammates at second base as the 'Fish sent their fans home with smiles on their faces after a dramatic 6-5 victory.
