Rapid City Rush News Release
(Bloomington, IL) - With a short bench, the Rapid City Rush gained a valuable two points in the Turner Conference playoff chase with a 4-0 win over the Bloomington Blaze. Goaltender Tim Boron earned his second shutout in three starts while Konrad Reeder collected the 9th hat trick in franchise history. The Rush now face the Dayton Gems tomorrow at 4:30pm MST and the game can be heard live on 100.3 the FOX.
The Rush came firing out of the gate, dominating the first half of the opening period and getting a pair of goals from Konrad Reeder. The first came at 4:09 on a set up from Shawn Limpright whose saucer pass through the neutral zone allowed Reeder to break in alone and backhand a shot under the blocker of Zane Kalemba. Three minutes later, a strong forecheck and pass by Collin Circelli set up Reeder at the left faceoff circle for a wrist shot just under the crossbar and a 2-0 lead. Finally, with less than three minutes remaining in the period, an odd-man chance for Rapid City culminated in a rebound goal from the top of the crease by veteran Scott Wray who became the sixth Rush skater to reach double-digit goals.
In the third frame, the Blaze found themselves on the powerplay, but a strong defensive effort at the blueline by Riley Weselowski freed the puck for Shawn Limpright. Limpright then flew a saucer to a streaking Reeder who deked past Kalemba, completing the hat trick and the 4-0 win.
Boron turned aside 28 shots for his second shutout in three starts and sixth of his career.
The Rush were unable to capitalize on any of their seven powerplays, but killed off all five chances against.
