Ottawa Champions News Release
OTTAWA - RHP Steve Borkowski turned in his best performance of the year, throwing over 130 pitches into the ninth inning, but the Champions fell 8-1 in extra innings on Sunday afternoon at RCGT Park in Ottawa.
Borkowski was incredibly unlucky not to pick up the win. He had only surrendered four baserunners heading into the ninth, but then gave up three straight base hits and was pulled. LHP Scott Maine came in and retired the side, but not before a run scored that was charged to Borkowski.
Ottawa then gave up seven runs in the top of the tenth, the brunt of the damage being done by a home run from 3B Taylor Brennan.
The Champions got on the board in the first inning. SS Daniel Bick got aboard via a walk and 2B Zak Colby smacked a double to bring him home. That was the only run scored until the top of the ninth when the Aigles got to Borkowski.
Colby recorded the only RBI for the Champions. DH Sebastien Boucher and 1B Vinny Guglietti each had multi-hit ballgames.
Ottawa will now hit the road to face Quebec and Trois-Rivières during a weeklong Quebec road swing. The Champions will return to RCGT Park on Tuesday, July 31 to take on the New Jersey Jackals. Tickets for all Champions home games are available at www.ottawachampions.com, in-person at the RCGT Park box office, or by calling 613-745-BALL (2255).
