SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - The Schaumburg Boomers finished off a busy weekend with a 7-1 win over the Windy City ThunderBolts to sweep the weekend series at Wintrust Field on Sunday afternoon.
Kyle Fitzgerald put the Boomers on the board in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI groundout after Windy City left the bases loaded in the top of the frame. Schaumburg plated four in the third to open a 5-0 advantage. Chase Dawson drove home a run with a fielder's choice and Gaige Howard followed with a sacrifice fly. Blake Berry broke the game open with a two-run homer. Windy City plated their lone run in the top of the sixth but the Boomers came back with two more in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from Blake Grant-Parks which made the score 7-1 and extended his hitting streak to 14 games.
Antonio Frias made his return to the rotation and worked five innings to gather his second win. Cristian Lopez, Juan Pichardo, Jake Joyce and Dylan Stutsman all worked an inning in relief. The pitching staff amassed 10 strikeouts in the contest. The Boomers finished with seven hits, two of which came from Berry.
The Boomers (45-32) are off on Monday before trekking to Ohio to begin a six-game roadtrip on Tuesday night against the Lake Erie Crushers at 6:05pm. RHP Jackson Hickert (5-3, 4.50) takes the mound in the series opener. The team still has nine home dates left on the schedule. Don't miss out on your chance to catch the Boomers in the playoff race.
