Boomers Fall in Regular Season Home Finale

SCHAUMBURG, IL -The East Division champion Schaumburg Boomers, presented by Wintrust Community Banks, were unable to hold an early lead, dropping an 8-7 decision to the Traverse City Beach Bums in the final home game of the regular season.

Schaumburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Rock Shoulders singled home Josh Gardiner while another run came around on an error. Zack Weigel knocked home the final run. Traverse City battled back, taking the lead with four runs in the fourth. The Boomers played cat and mouse, trading runs before tying the game with two in the eighth.

Weigel, Opie Brodbeck and Jack Parenty each finished with two hits in the game. James Keller, who was forced to enter the contest at third base, knocked in a pair of runs. Brandon Quintero worked four innings on the mound in a no-decision, striking out four. The Boomers struck out 12 batters in the defeat. Michael Wood suffered the loss, allowing a run in the 10th.

The Boomers (64-29), who have set a team record for wins and own the best record in the league, conclude the regular season with three games this weekend at Windy City.
