Buffalo Destroyers News Release
(BUFFALO, NY)- Four members of the Buffalo Bombshells, the cheerleading/dance team for the Buffalo Destroyers, will travel to Fort Hood, Texas on Friday to visit troops at the largest active duty armed post in the United States Armed Services.
Bombshells Korinne, Lori, Michelle and Tiffany will leave Buffalo Friday, May 16 and return from Fort Hood Sunday, May 18. This is the first of two visits by the Bombshells. Later this year, 15 members of the Bombshells will go back to Fort Hood to perform a USO show which will featuring singing, dancing and skits.
The weekend begins with a lunch with the soldiers on Friday. After lunch, they will visit soldiers in their various work areas, before getting a tour of the Apache and Blackhawk helicopters on site. The day will finish with a visit to the Officer Club.
On Saturday, the Bombshells will visit soldiers at local fire stations and hospitals. In the afternoon, an autograph session is scheduled at the Clear Creek PX. The girls will have time to shop and after dinner will take part in a laser bowling outing at Phantom Lanes.
The trip was organized by Bombshells Director Missy Altieri and Pat McGee, a member of Army and Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) in Fort Hood. Last month, before he was deployed to Iraq, McGee contacted Altieri to see if the Bombshells would be interested in visiting the base and requested a video of the Bombshells to show to the troops oversees.
McGee personally delivered the Bombshells video along with magazines, clothes, books, and music to entertain the troops throughout their time in Iraq. The Bombshells video contains the girls dancing, singing God Bless America, and personal messages from every cheerleader.
"It's a chance in a lifetime to be able to give something back to the troops," said Altieri. "We want the troops to know that we support them 100% and are very grateful for everything they are doing for our country.
Fort Hood is located in Central Texas, 60 miles north of the state capital, Austin. Fort Hood covers over 350 square miles and is home for 47,000 soldiers and 30,000 children along with being the only post in the United States that supports two full armored divisions. Fort Hood is the residence for the 1st Cavalry Division, the 4th Infantry Division, the 13th Corps Support Command, the Headquarters Command III Corps and the 3rd Signal Brigade among others.
The Destroyers finish the 2003 regular season Sunday, May 18 as they travel to the desert to battle the Las Vegas Gladiators at 6:00 p.m. (Eastern) at the Thomas and Mack Center. The game will be televised on the Empire Sports Network and on radio on the Destroyers Radio Network.
