Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB - Football Manitoba and the Winnipeg Rifles scored big today thanks to a pair of major contributions from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
The football club presented Football Manitoba representatives with a cheque for $115,030. The contribution represents the proceeds generated by the football club's 50/50 program in 2006, including $78,000 from 10 home games and approximately $36,000 from the 2006 Grey Cup.
The Blue Bombers and Football Manitoba have had a long and healthy relationship. The football club has contributed more than $520,000 to amateur football's governing body since 2001. As well, the football club has provided specialized clinics and access to its facilities as part of its partnership with Football Manitoba.
"We are pleased to be able to make a contribution like this to amateur football in the province," Bombers president and CEO Lyle Bauer said. "In order to make this game strong at the pro level, we have to ensure that we continue to grow the game at the grassroots level and this contribution should go a long way in helping make that happen."
Rob Berkowits, Executive Director of Football Manitoba, echoed those sentiments.
"We are extremely fortunate to have the Winnipeg Football Club as a strong and committed ally," Berkowits said. "The Bombers' unwavering support and investment in the local amateur football community will ensure that the game will continue to flourish at all levels."
Meanwhile, the Blue Bombers also announced today that the Winnipeg Rifles received $25,000 in funding this past season. That brings the Bombers' contribution to the junior football program to approximately $100,000 since 2003. As well, the Blue Bombers have promoted the Rifles during the football club's season ticket campaign since 2004.
