Bombers hire D-line coach

WINNIPEG, MB – John Kropke comes to the Blue Bombers with five years of coaching experience and over 100 games as a player in the CFL.

Kropke was an assistant coach under Darrell Crouch for Eureka College in Illinois during the 2000-2004 seasons. He spent the past four seasons as defensive line coach and his first season as the linebacker coach.

In 2002 & 2003 Kropke served as a defensive line training camp coach for the Calgary Stampeders.

Kropke played for Illinois State University in 1984 to 1987 before signing as a free agent in the NFL with Dallas Cowboys in 1988 and the Chicago Bears in 1989 before playing nine seasons in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

He began in the CFL on October of 1989 with the Ottawa Rough Riders and spent seven seasons with the team, making the Football Reports of Canada East Division All-star team the last four years in a row where he played both as defensive tackle and defensive end.

Kropke played for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1996 as a nose tackle. In 1997 he played for Head Coach Jim Daley with the Western Division Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Kropke was a four-time Intergold CFLPA All-star twice with Ottawa and once with Winnipeg and Saskatchewan. John was also nominated for best defensive player and most outstanding player in the league.

After retirement from the CFL, Kropke finished his degree in political science at ISU.
