Bombers Earn 40th Win, Down Generals 8-2

Bryan-College Station, TX (August 6, 2014) - Earning their 40th win of the season, the Brazos Valley Bombers (40-14) downed the Victoria Generals (35-23) 8-2 Wednesday.

"At the plate our approach was a lot better," head coach Curt Dixon said. "Yesterday, we had 12 fly-outs and tonight the ball was hit on a line. We didn't get two-out hits last night and we did tonight."

The Bombers offense had no trouble pushing runners across the plate, scoring three runs in the first inning, two off a double from designated hitter Grady Caldwell. The Bombers would continue to bolster their lead after a double from first baseman G.R. Hinsley would send two more home in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-0 early.

Starting pitcher Mike Walker would give up a run in the top of the third, but would otherwise hold the Generals scoreless in 5 1/3 innings of work as he went on to earn his third win of the season.

The Bombers scored again in the sixth, bringing their lead to 6-1. Victoria would bring a run home in the top of the seventh, but the Bombers would score two more in the bottom of the frame on yet another double, this time from right fielder Dane Steinhagen.

Behind 14 total hits, the Bombers would cruise to their 40th win of the season for the second consecutive year.

To conclude the regular season, the Bombers will welcome the Texas Marshals to Cellucor Field for a two game series. Thursday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. and is Thirsty Thursday with dollar soda, beer, and margaritas thanks to Western Beverages.
