Brazos Valley Bombers News Release
Bryan-College Station, TX (August 5, 2014) - The Brazos Valley Bombers (39-14) fell 5-1 to the second place Victoria Generals (35-22) Tuesday.
The Generals went to work on offense quickly, scoring all five of their runs in the first three innings. Though the scoreboard wouldn't reflect it, the Bombers held their own offensively as well, posting 10 total hits and seven walks.
"Offensively, all night the ball was in the air," said head coach Curt Dixon. "I think we flew out 12 times, six or seven with runners in scoring position. We had a ton of runners on bases, didn't get the key hit, and that's the way baseball plays out if you don't take advantage of those type of things."
The Bombers would rally late, getting on the board in the bottom of the eighth, but the deficit proved too great as the team lost just their third home game in their last 21 at Cellucor Field.
While the Bombers have three regular season games remaining, the staff is mindful of setting the team up for success in the playoffs which begin Saturday.
"We're taking it day by day, but we have Saturday circled," Dixon said. "We're going to prep to win each night, but more importantly make sure that everybody is getting their [at-bats] and getting their rest and pitchers are getting their innings strategically to be ready for Saturday, Sunday, Monday."
The Bombers will rematch the Generals Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. at Cellucor Field. Wednesday's game is Weenie Wednesday with dollar hot dogs presented by FedStar Credit Union.
