Battle Creek Battle Jacks News Release

MADISON, WI- The Bombers dropped a close contest to the Madison Mallards 6-5 in the 2012 Northwoods League season opener.

Battle Creek struck first as Jeremy Shay (Bowling Green) hit a sac fly to score Dylan Delaney (Michigan) in the top of the first inning. Madison responded by scoring one of their own in the bottom of the first, and then took the lead in the bottom of the third with a bases clearing 3-run double by Jeff Zimmerman (Northern Illinois) allowing Madison to jump out to a 4-1 lead.

A solo home run by Tyler Marincov (North Florida) in the 6th pushed the Mallards lead to 5-2, but the Bombers rallied to tie the game in the 8th on a 2-run single by Tomas Albert (Doane College.) After a lead-off walk to begin the bottom of the 8th, Marincov went on to steal 2nd and 3rd base, and eventually scored on a Bomber throwing error for the eventual winning run.

The final game of the two-game set with the Mallards concludes tomorrow evening at Warner Park. Kyle Teague (Grand Valley State) has the ball for Battle Creek.
