Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Bombers had three goals in the second period but could not overcome an early 4-0 lead by the visiting Reading Royals, falling 5-4 on Wednesday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.

The Royals built a sufficient lead in the first period, scoring four goals on four shots against Bombers' netminder Tyler Plante. The Bombers managed six shots on goal in the period, but could not get the puck past Reading's James Reimer.

In the second period it was a role reversal as the Bombers scored the first two goals of the frame. First Mike McLean scored his sixth of the year from Justin Bowers and Brock Wilson just under three minutes into the period. Then at the ten minute mark Jarret Lukin capitalized on a power play opportunity to net his tenth of the season, with assists from Wilson and Joe Van Culin. While the Royals would net a fifth goal in the frame, Bombers captain Greg Labenski would cut Reading's lead to 5-3 on a power play goal in the closing minute of the second. Bowers and Les Reaney were credited with assists on the play. Following two periods of play the Bombers were outshooting the Royals 30-23.

The Bombers netted their third power play goal of the game less that five minutes into the third period when McLean scored his second goal of the game from Van Culin and Danny LaPointe, cutting Reading's lead to 5-4. However, the Bombers comeback effort was not enough take down Reading.

Plante finished the game 24 of 29, while Reading's Reimer was 35 of 39. The Bombers were 3 of 8 on the power play and killed 6 of Reading's 8 power play opportunities.

The Bombers are in action against the South Division's Charlotte Checkers on Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, December 14 at 5:00 p.m.

Friday is "$5 Fridays" for kids 12 and under at the Nutter Center box office (Silver level tickets only). The US Marine Corps will hold a Toys for Tots drive for needy children throughout the Miami Valley. Santa and Mrs. Claus will make a special appearance, with free pre-game pictures available on the party deck.
