Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The Blue Bombers welcome back a familiar face today as Jon Oosterhuis has re-signed with the Winnipeg Football Club.

As per team policy, details of the agreement are not disclosed.

Oosterhuis (6-4, 255, New Hampshire '01, DOB: June 13, 1977 in Fergus, ON) enters his eighth season with the Blue Bombers.

Oosterhuis is one of the longest-tenured Blue Bombers currently on the team. Formerly a defensive lineman, Oosterhuis is prepared to play the fullback position in the upcoming season.

"Our organization is extremely pleased to have Jon back into the fold. He has the work ethic, desire to excel, team-first attitude, and determination that is exactly what our team wants to portray," said head coach Mike Kelly.

"John's our utility player that can play fullback, special teams, and get us out of a pinch on either line."

The 31-year-old out of the University of New Hampshire has played in 107 career regular season games, including nine games last year in a season shortened by injury. He has 37 defensive tackles in his career, and two quarterback sacks.

As well as being a big presence on the football field, Oosterhuis is also a big supporter of supporting the community. He lives in Winnipeg year round, and has lent his support to organizations such as the Never Alone Foundation, Cancer Care Manitoba, the Children's Hospital Foundation and many more.

Oosterhuis was originally drafted by the Calgary Stampeders in the first round of the 2002 CFL Draft. He was released by Calgary midway through his rookie campaign, and then came East to Winnipeg, where he signed as a free agent on Sept. 12, 2002.

At the University of New Hampshire, Oosterhuis played four years of college football and was a team captain in his senior season.
