WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers' defensive secondary got stronger today with the addition of veteran cornerback Omar Evans in a trade with the Calgary Stampeders.

Evans (6-0, 190, Howard '00, DOB: Sept. 1, 1976 in Alexandria, Va.) was acquired in exchange for future considerations.

"We are very happy to add an experienced person of Omar's ability to our team," said Bombers G.M. Brendan Taman said.

"He's a very smart person that plays the game at a high level of intensity. We feel like he'll fit quite nicely into our defensive scheme."

Evans spent one season with the Stamps after being obtained in a trade with the Montreal Alouettes. In nine regular season games in 2004, he collected 19 tackles, one quarterback sack, one special teams tackle, one pass knockdown, one fumble recovery and a tackle for a loss.

In 2003, Evans appeared in 15 regular season games for the Als. He finished the season with 42 tackles, seven pass knockdowns, two tackles for a loss, one fumble recovery and two interceptions. The highlight of his 2003 season was a six-tackle, one pass knockdown effort June 17 at McMahon Stadium against Calgary. On July 19 he recorded seven tackles against those same Stamps at Molson Stadium in Montreal.

Evans played in 12 games with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in 2002 and made 22 tackles and one interception. He missed six games due to a knee injury.

Evans entered the CFL in 2001 with the green Riders as a rookie free agent and played his first game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He collected 35 tackles and one pass interception that season.
