Rockford Lightning News Release

Cordell Henry scored 31 points on a night when the Lightning got revenge on the defending champion Sioux Falls Skyforce. Taking six quarter points and handing the Skyforce their first loss of the season, a 133-127 Lightning victory, Head Coach Chris Daleo and the Rockford Lightning took over first place in the Eastern Conference with a 2-1 record and 4.3 quarter point average.

Henry led the team in scoring and assists while shooting 4 of 7 from behind the arc, and hitting on all 9 of his free throw shots. He finished with 31 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals coming off the bench in Tuesday night's victory.

Fans held their breath in the first quarter when Ronnie Fields went down after a hard foul and was holding his wrist. The Lightning were forced to use a 20-second timeout, but Fields made it back to the line after the short break and sank both free throws bringing the Lightning to within a point at 32-33. The Skyforce were unable to score on the next play, and the Lightning went down and scored on a Kenyon Gamble backwards tip-in to give them a 34-33 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the game.

Gamble got his first start of the season as a rookie and recorded 5 blocked shots along with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Fields and Marlon Parmer each had impressive nights with Palmer finishing with 22 points and 8 assists, and Fields with 21 points and 6 assists.

It was Henry that put the game out of reach when he hit a floater over a Skyforce defender with 31 seconds left in the fourth and was fouled on the play. He converted the three-point play and gave the Lightning a four-point lead that put the game out of reach for Sioux Falls.

Brandon Hunter led the Skyforce with 28 points and 15 rebounds in 40 minutes of play, while Jemeil Rich added 12 assists in the game. There were seven technical fouls called in the game, 4 by Rockford. Skyforce forward Joe Dabbert was ejected with 3:16 left in the third quarter.

The Lightning will travel to Albany for back-to-back games this week on Thursday and Friday before returning home to face the Michigan Mayhem on Sunday night at the MetroCentre.
