Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - After trailing 3-0 in the ninth inning, the ThunderBolts scored three runs in the ninth and one more in the tenth to beat the Schaumburg Boomers 4-3 at Boomers Stadium Wednesday night.
Cole Bellair and Matt Miller were engaged in a great pitchers' duel for the first four innings with neither pitcher allowing a run, but the Boomers (23-24) got to Bellair in the fifth. Jimmy Galusky hit a leadoff double and scored on a two-out double from Clint Hardy.
Schaumburg added two more runs with RBI singles from Hardy and Quincy Nieporte in the seventh and eighth innings, respectively.
Miller, meanwhile, held the ThunderBolts (21-25) to only one hit over the first eight innings of the game. Brynn Martinez picked up the second one, a single to begin the ninth. Tyler Alamo's one-out base hit put runners at the corners with one out and Miller departed in favor of Schaumburg closer Connor Eller.
Shane Carrier broke up the shutout with a sacrifice fly but Patrick Mathis hit a flyball to right that appeared as though it would end the game. Hardy, though, lost the ball in the lights and it dropped for an RBI triple. Chase Cockrell followed with a game-tying single, sending it into extra innings.
After they began the inning with back-to-back singles, the Bolts had runners at the corners, but Tyler Straub was thrown out trying to score on a flyout to right field. That left the leading run at first base with two outs when Alamo hit a popup to left field. Two Schaumburg defenders let it drop between them and Martinez came all the way around from first with the winning score.
Colby Blueberg (1-0) tossed two shutout innings for the win and Eller (4-2) took the loss.
The rubber match of the series is scheduled for Thursday evening at 6:30. Austin Jones (1-3, 5.12) will take the start for the Bolts. Schaumburg has not yet announced a starter. The radio broadcast can be heard through wcthunderbolts.com.
