Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, NE - Steven Bolton made great saves all night, but none were as big as the ones in overtime and the shootout that led the Tri-City Storm (9-8-5, 23 pts) to victory against the Omaha Lancers (18-4-1, 37 pts), 4-3 in a shootout Friday night.
The Storm struck first in the opening period, as Radoslav Illo scored 7:24 into the first period assisted by Brett Mohler. Tri-City is now 7-2-1 when scoring the first goal of the game.
Tucker Long scored his first career USHL goal at the 15:39 mark to put the Storm in front 2-0, as Blake Coleman and Kenny Brooks picked up the assists.
Neither team scored in the second period, as Omaha outshot the Storm 12-7. However, Bolton made a couple key saves in the period, nullifying scoring chances by the Lancers.
Omaha finally got a puck past Bolton 11:03 into the third period, as Seth Ambroz scored a power-play goal to get the Lancers on the board.
Five-minutes later, Nick Oddo scored to tie the game at 2-2 with 3:50 left in regulation.
After an unfortunate bounce of the Storm end-boards, Troy Power would score for the Lancers to put Omaha in front 3-2 with 1:04 left in the game.
However, the Storm's Jaden Schwartz fed a pass in front of the Omaha net to setup Anthony DeCenzo's goal that knotted the game back up at 3-3, 26-seconds after Omaha scored.
Omaha had the only shots in overtime, but were denied twice by Bolton, who forced the game to a shootout.
The Storm scored twice on four shots in the shootout, as Maxwell Tardy and Illo scored the pair for Tri-City. Erik Haula scored the lone goal for Omaha, while Bolton denied the rest of the Lancer shooters.
Bolton (2-2-0) made 29 saves on 32 shots, plus four saves on five shots in the shootout win for the Storm. Jeff Teglia (14-3-1) made 19 saves on 22 shots in the shootout loss for the Lancers.
The Storm on the power play was 0-2, while Omaha was 1-6 with the man-advantage.
Tri-City will play at home Saturday afternoon against the Des Moines Buccaneers at 3:05 PM before traveling to Omaha on Tuesday night to play the Lancers for the fourth time this season.
Notes: Tardy's point streak ended at five games... Storm defenseman Nate Jensen is now a plus-5, which leads the team in the plus-minus category... the Storm's Kenny Brooks celebrated his 18th birthday on Friday night... It was the first win for the Storm over the Lancers this season... Tri-City will not play against the Lancers again on home-ice in the regular season... The final two games of the season series will be played in Omaha (December 15th and March 26th)
