Bolte Propels Ports to Series-Opening Win

Visalia, CA - Henry Bolte hit two home runs and four Ports pitchers combined to allow just six hits without issuing a walk as Stockton defeated the Visalia Rawhide 7-1 in the series opener on Tuesday night at Valley Strong Ballpark.

The Ports (36-61) jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with a big top of the first inning. Dereck Salom doubled to right field to start the ballgame and scored with Bolte hit his first home run of the evening, a two-run shot with one out, to give the Ports an early 2-0 advantage. Yeniel Laboy then followed with a walk and with two outs advanced to third base on a single to right field by Bjay Cooke. With runners on second and third, Cooper Uhl lined a single to center field to double the Ports' lead to 4-0.

In the bottom of the second inning the Rawhide (34-63) got a run back against Stockton starter Tzu-Chen Sha. Gavin Logan hit a one-out single to right field and after stealing second base, scored with two outs when Riquelman Cabral lined a single to center field to get Visalia on the board and cut the Ports' lead to 4-1.

Stockton bounced back in the top of the third when Bolte hit the first pitch of the inning over the wall in right off Rawhide reliever Brock Jones for his second home run of the night extending the Ports' lead to 5-1.

The Ports added on again in the top of the fourth inning. Robert Puason led off with a single and after stealing second base, advanced to third on when Salom flew out to center field. With the infield drawn in, Myles Naylor hit a groundball to shortstop reached on an errant throw by Jose Fernandez that also allowed Puason to score making it 6-1. Naylor advanced to third when Bolte singled to right field, and Bolte stole second base to put runners on second and third with one out. Yeniel Laboy then drove in Naylor with a groundout to first base to increase the Ports' lead to 7-1.

Four Ports pitchers made the lead stand, as Sha, Garrett Irvin, Charlie Cerny and Carlos Guarate combined to allow just six hits without walking a batter. Visalia had just three singles from third inning on as the Ports closed the game out.

Irvin (7-1) got the win for Stockton allowing just one hit over three shutout innings. Rawhide starter Jacob Steinmetz (0-8) was saddled with the loss allowing four runs on three hits in just 0.2 innings.

Winners of three of their last four games, the Ports will look to keep it going in game two gainst the Rawhide on Wednesday night at Valley Strong Ballpark with first pitch at 7:00 pm.
