Boise Hawks Finish First Half at Home

July 19, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Boise Hawks News Release

BOISE, ID - The Boise Hawks will begin their third homestand of the season this Thursday, July 21 against the Yakima Bears. The Hawks (15-16) will play six games at home to complete the first half of the Northwest League season, returning to Boise after an eight-game road trip in Vancouver and Spokane. After their three-game series with the Bears (11-20), the Hawks will face the Spokane Indians, in a possible face-off for first place for the half.

The Hawks are currently in second place in the East trailing the Spokane Indians (16-15) and the Tri-City Dust Devils (16-15) by one game. The first half of the season ends on Monday, July 25 and all positional rankings are based on winning percentage.

Look for promotions nearly every day of the Hawks' six-game homestand. July 21 and 24 are 4 for $34 Nights at Memorial Stadium, where fans can purchase four tickets, four hot dogs, and four Pepsi products for just $34. Thursday, July 21, is also Kids Appreciation and half-price beverage night, where fans can get Humphrey Savings Banks. Fans can then enjoy post-game fireworks after showing their patriotism on Disabled American Veterans Night, Friday, July 22.

The Spitball Gang Mascot Act will be making their first appearance of the season this Saturday, July 23. Then join us for Math Mondays, where kids under 12 get a free hot dog and juice just for showing up. Kids will also have the chance to earn a ticket to a future Hawks game by completing a short math quiz provided by the State Department of Education. Tuesday will be the Hawks' second Library Reading Night, sponsored by KeyBank, where fans can use vouchers from the local library in exchange for two reserve seats. A Hawks player will also read a book to fans in the Kids' Park at 6:50 p.m. Fans can get a free ticket by purchasing a ticket and bringing a KRAFT Singles wrapper to the ballpark this Tuesday.

Boise will look to tie things up in the East tonight, after the Spokane Indians battled back in the ninth inning to defeat the Hawks 8-7 last night. The Cubs' 2011 third round draft pick did not disappoint though. OF Zeke DeVoss had thievery on his mind, stealing five bases in his Hawks debut. The Hawks' bullpen struggled to close out the game with a four-run cushion in the last frame. The Indians picked up a game on the Hawks and their first ninth inning come-from-behind win of the season. RHP Yao-Lin Wang will look to right the ship tonight as he toes the rubber against Spokane's southpaw Victor Payano. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 pm MT.

Please contact Kristen Nimmo or Laura Verillo with all media and/or interview requests for this homestand and for the rest of the season.

The Hawks began Northwest League play as an independent club from 1987-89. The team was affiliated with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim from 1990-2000 and has been with the Chicago Cubs since 2001. The club has won 6 NWL Championships, the most recent banner coming in 2004. Season, mini-pack, flex books, group nights, and single game tickets for Hawks games are available at 208-322-5000, or online at www.boisehawks.com.
