July 19, 2011 - Northwest League (NWL1)
Tri-City Dust Devils News Release
The Tri-City Dust Devils once again fell into a tie for first place atop the Northwest League East Division Monday night, losing 9-6 to the Yakima Bears. The loss, along with the Spokane Indians defeating the Boise Hawks, puts Tri-City in a tie with Spokane and just one game ahead of Boise with seven games remaining the first half of the season.
Tri-City (16-15) starting pitcher Christian Bergman (2-3) was tagged with his third loss of the season, going six innings in which he allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out four and walking one. Relievers Ching-Lung Lo and Chris Dennis combined to allow four Yakima runs over the final three innings.
Yakima (11-20) starting pitcher Brad Wilson (2-2) had his most impressive outing of the season for the Bears, working six innings and allowing just one run on four hits. Bears relievers Mike Blake and Evan Marshall combined to allow five runs over the final three innings, but the Bears held on to secure their 11th win of the season.
After a slow start the Dust Devils rallied late but came up just short, scoring five runs in the final two innings to cut the Bears' lead to three. Outfielders Jared Simon and Jaron Shepherd had two hits each with Simon also driving in two runs. Infielder Tim Smalling also had two hits, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
Tuesday night at Gesa Stadium is 80's Night, as the Dust Devils look to even the three game series with the Bears at a game apiece. Tri-City will start right-hander Vianney Mayo on the mound while Yakima will have righty Teo Gutierrez as their starting pitcher. First pitch is at 7:15 p.m.
