Boeser, Morris on All-League Teams

Waterloo, Iowa-Forward Brock Boeser and goaltender Cale Morris earned the admiration of fans at Young Arena with strong performances during the 2014/15 season; United States Hockey League hockey operations personnel were also impressed and voted the pair of Waterloo Black Hawks to the circuit's All-USHL Teams, it was announced Thursday.

Boeser led the Black Hawks with 68 points in 57 appearances. He capped the year with 18 points in the final dozen contests and was only held off the scoresheet once in that span. Considering Boeser's co-league leading total of 35 goals, he was recognized with a place on this season's All-USHL First Team.

Thursday's announcement marks the third consecutive year in which a Black Hawk has been selected for the All-USHL First Team: last season Brandon Montour earned the same recognition, and at the conclusion of 2012/13, Taylor Cammarata, Justin Kloos, and Ian McCoshen were each First Team honorees. Boeser becomes the first Black Hawk ever to be named to the league's First Team and Rookie Team in the same season.

Morris' arrival coincided with a change in Waterloo's fortunes. From his Black Hawks debut on January 17th following a trade with the Chicago Steel, Morris appeared in every game through the end of the regular season, earning a record of 19-6-3 in that time. Including his stint in Chicago, the Colorado native finished among the league's top three goaltenders in wins (27, tied second), save percentage (92.0%, second), and goals-against average (2.41, third). USHL coaches and general managers voted Morris to a place on the All-USHL Third Team.

Boeser is committed to the University of North Dakota and is anticipated to enroll there as a freshman this fall. Morris will eventually play at the University of Notre Dame, but is expected to return to the Black Hawks for the 2015/16 campaign. Both players were listed by NHL Central Scouting as notable candidates for the 2015 NHL Draft to be held next month in Florida.

In addition, former Black Hawks defenseman Hayden Shaw was named to the All-USHL First Team. Shaw appeared in 32 games for Waterloo in 2014/15, notching two goals and 27 assists. At the league's trade deadline, he was acquired by the Dubuque Fighting Saints in a swap which provided him with the opportunity to complete his junior career playing for his father, Fighting Saints Head Coach Matt Shaw.
