Portland Winterhawks News Release
Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, announced today that they have signed goaltender Donavan Bodnar to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.
The West St. Paul, Man. native puts pen to paper with Portland after spending the last three seasons with RINK Hockey Academy, the same program that produced Winterhawks like Seth Jarvis, Dante Giannuzzi, Ryder Thompson, and Aidan Litke. Through seven games playing at the U18 level, Bodnar holds a 5-2-0-0 record with a 3.00 goals against average and better than a .900 save percentage.
"Our goalie coaches like the foundation of Donavan's game, and will work with him to continue his steady development in the months ahead," Assistant to the General Manager and Director of Scouting Mike Coflin said. "He is in a solid program with the RINK Academy in Winnipeg, and his focus is to build on a strong start to the new season.'
Originally selected by Portland in the seventh round (#141 overall) of the 2020 WHL Draft, Bodnar will be a key piece of the Winterhawks future in net.
Bodnar (6'0", 170lbs.) recently attended the Winterhawks 2021 Neely Cup, winning the training camp tournament as a member of Team Hill. He is now the third signed goaltender in Portland's system and sixth 2005-born prospect to commit to the Hawks.
