Blues Announce the Signing of Burgos Jr.

IRVINE, Calif. (April 21, 2015) - Midfielder Efrain "Junior" Burgos Jr. has signed with Oliver Wyss' Orange County Blues FC for the 2015 USL season. Burgos Jr. made his first appearance as a Blue on Saturday, April 18th, assisting the Blues in their 3-0 victory over Arizona United SC.

Burgos Jr. played two years with San Jose State University before transferring to California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo in 2008, appearing in a total of 28 matches and scoring seven goals for the Mustangs. While in college, he played for USL Premier Development League teams San Francisco Seals, Bakersfield Brigade, and Chicago Fire Premier.

Born in Santa Ana, El Salvador, Burgos Jr. was drafted 44th overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft and made two appearances with Toronto FC. In 2014, the San Bruno, Calif. native signed with North American Soccer League team Atlanta Silverbacks and made 17 appearances, scoring three goals. Burgos Jr. was previously with Jaguares de Cordoba from the Colombian first division before being released from his contract through mutual consent in March of 2015. The midfielder has made eight appearances with the El Salvadoran national team, including the 2014 Copa Centroamericana.

"I want to win a title this year. We have the right team and coaching staff and I am excited to be a part of the Blues organization, hopefully we can get our first championship," commented Burgos Jr. "I bring experience having played in different levels and leagues in various countries and I hope to add on to what the Blues have here."

The 26-year-old takes after his father, Efrain Burgos, who played professionally in El Salvador with Once Lobos, FAS, C.D. Atlético Marte, Isidro Metapan, Alianza and Guatemalan side Cobán Imperial.
