Richmond Kickers News Release
RICHMOND, VA - (Tuesday, April 21, 2015) - The Richmond Kickers head north for a mid-week match up against the New York Red Bulls II on Wednesday, April 22. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the match will be broadcast live from Red Bull Arena on YouTube.com/RichmondKickers. The Kickers continue the two-game road trip in Montreal on Saturday, April 25 before returning to City Stadium to host Charleston on May 2.
The Kickers face expansion side Red Bulls II for the first time in franchise history as New York made their USL debut in 2015 as one of eight MLS-owned and operated clubs. An official affiliate of the New York Red Bulls of Major League soccer, the Red Bulls II roster is comprised of USL players, MLS loan players and Red Bulls Academy players.
The Red Bulls II return to Red Bull Arena after earning a point against the Charleston Battery in the club's first-ever road match last week. After conceding a goal in first half stoppage time, New York rallied to draw the score level with 20 minutes remaining in regulation when midfielder Sean Davis' well-placed free kick connected with forward Anatole Abang who nodded home the equalizer.
Meanwhile, the Kickers notched their second 3-0 shutout in as many games, edging the Charlotte Independence at City Stadium last weekend. Midfielder George Davis IV earned his first career hat trick, burying a laser strike into the upper 90 and converting a pair of penalties on either side of the half. Goalkeeper Ryan Taylor also made history last week when he posted his first professional shutout, weathering 10 shots on the night including a flurry of heroic saves in the final five minutes, to preserve his clean sheet.
Taking on a second MLS-owned team three days later, the Kickers battle the Montreal Impact on Saturday before returning to City Stadium to host Charleston on May 2. The Kickers host the New York Red Bulls II in Richmond on Saturday, May 30 before closing out the three-game series back in New York on Sunday, July 26.
